How to Make Doughnut Cookies

I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t love doughnuts. The only flaw is that they are too sweet. What would you say if you got hold of a recipe that captured the flavor of doughnuts but in the form of cookies – neither too sweet, not too big? Can’t resist them, can you? Here’s the recipe to doughnut cookies –

 You will need –

Sugar cookies
Royal Icing – Chocolate and Vanilla flavors
Color sprinkles
Coconut
Chopped nuts
Caramel drizzle
Cookie cutter – Medium and small size

How to Make

Step 1 – Bake Sugar Cookies

You will first need a good quantity of sugar cookies.

Ø  Use your sugar cookie recipe to make the dough.
Ø  Roll them into thickness of 1/4th inch.
Ø  Cut them in doughnut shapes.
Ø  Bake them.

Step 2 – Decorate the First Section

Ø  Now cool these cookies and get the decoration ready.
Ø  First, decide how many types of doughnut cookies you want and divide the sugar cookies into that many sections.
Ø  Take vanilla icing and spread it over one batch of cookies. You can also add color to the icing.
Ø  Sprinkle color sprinkles over this batch of cookies. Press them gently so that the sprinkles do not fall off.

Step 3 – Decorate the Second Section

Ø  Take the second section of cookies and spread icing on this section too.
Ø  Now, take the chopped nuts and sprinkle them on top of the vanilla icing.
Ø  Press gently so that the nuts stick to the icing.

Step 4 – Decorate the Third Section

Repeat the same procedure as in step 2. Instead of nuts, use shredded coconut, gently pressing at the top.

Step 5 – Decorate the Fourth Section

For the fourth section, take the cookies and drizzle chocolate sauce over them.

Now spread vanilla icing over it. Or, alternatively, you can decorate using vanilla icing. If the cookies are for a kids’ party, then make faces using the vanilla icing.

Another method is to spread vanilla icing on the base cookie and then decorate with chocolate icing. You can also drizzle caramel over the vanilla and decorate.

Use your imagination and be as creative as you like. You can add hollow or chocolate filled candies to decorate. You can also combine steps 2 and 3 and come up with a new combination. Combinations can be vanilla icing with coconut topping and caramel drizzled or chocolate icing with colorful or silver sprinkles.

When you set your imagination free, you will find that there is so much you can do! In fact, if the cookies are not for a surprise party for your kids, you can hand over the cookies to them and put them to work. Of course, there won’t be much left of the cookies, or the decorations by the time they finish, but the work will keep them involved and happy.

If you want more clean work, that is, if you want your kitchen to be clean but have the craving for such delicious cookies, then Aunt Beth’s cookies are for you. You will find so much variety that everyone in your family will love.
