Increase Your Home Security on a Budget

Let us face it. These are not safe times we are living in. Thieves, robbers and burglars are lurking at every corner, so staying safe had become one of the biggest concerns of a modern man. So, let us see what we can do, in order to improve safety of our homes, without spending too much money.

Inspect
First of all, you will need to take a walk around your house. See if you can spot any weak spots in your defense, so you may correct that. Thinking like the thief would will increase chances to notice something of importance, and do not think that you are silly for thinking that your basement window is too small for someone to enter. Thieves can work in pairs, and finding someone slim enough to slip through is possible. Also, if you have rain drainage system, it can work as a ladder, so climbing those will jeopardize the second floor of your house.

A dog
The very first line of defense is man’s best friend. You do not need to own a Rottweiler, in order to feel safe, so it would be enough that your dog is not friendly toward visitors. A simple bark can discourage a thief to penetrate your home. Those people work in silence and shadows, so if they are exposed, it is likely that they will give up and run. In addition, sign which says “Dog bites” will make potential intruder to think twice. Even if you do not own a dog, it still can be valid intimidation method.

Light
Having your house lighted well will also contribute to its safety. Burglars as we said, love to operate in the dark, so if you have sensor-powered light at your back door, it will make the burglar to pass your house. However, if you cannot invest into this kind of lights, installing one simple is good start, and leave it on during the night.

Bars and doors
These are your potential weak spots, and you must cover them properly. Bars on windows (think about those of the basement as well) will physically prevent intruders to enter your house. Even if your window can be breached, it would require at least a hammer and a chisel to remove those bars, and the noise from that work would alarm at least half of your street. As for your doors, there is not too much thinking. The sturdier they are the better. Deadbolts are also a must have, for those are much more resistant to lock picking than standard ones. In case that you are less keen or skillfull on doing this on your own, there is a vast sea of choices, so you may choose 24hr locksmith Ryde based, or in Tokyo, depending on what is closer to you. All the joke aside, certainly there is available locksmith in your city, and all you need to do, is to find him.

Behaving
All of these above are worthless, if you are not behaving responsibly. Never leave your doors unlocked, and in case that you have lost your key, immediately replace the lock. Also, if you have bought new house, also replace all the locks, for you cannot know who lived there, and who has the spare key. However, if the worst case scenario happens, and you hear a burglar in your house, do not play hero, but sit tight and call the police immediately. Once the cavalry arrives, they will handle the situation.

So, to conclude everything, it is up to you to make your house safe. Be creative, and remember that any kind of protection is always better than none.
