Influential Women in Law
Law is a demanding
field that requires time, patience, intelligence and plenty of hard work. In
past years, men dominated this field, but nowadays, more women find themselves
excelling in this wonderful field. Here are a few examples from Carter Capner
of the most influential women in law:
Arabella Mansfield:
Arabella was a strong, intelligent woman who opened the door for other females
by becoming the first woman admitted to the Iowa Bar back in 1869. She was
allowed to take the bar exam thanks to her impressive test scores in school,
which is amazing because there was a law that only allowed white males over 21
to take the exam. Arabella passed the test with a spectacular score, and thanks
to her efforts, Iowa law soon permitted women to take the bar exam.
Laura Wasser: Laura
is one of the highest paid divorce lawyers in the country, and her law firm is
sought-after by the world’s most recognized celebrities. Some of Laura’s
clients include the following: Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Kate Walsh and
Robyn Gibson.
Stacey D. Phillips:
Stacey is a prominent litigation attorney who specializes in numerous areas of
law and, thanks to her ability to defend her client’s rights, works in one of
the most successful law firms in the country and only takes on high profile
cases. Not only that, she has been sought after by the world’s most renowned
solicitors.
Karen DeCrow:
Karen, who was also a female rights activist, started her career as a
journalist in 1969. Later in her life, she became a sought-after attorney and
became the first female mayoral candidate in New York. Karen was a firm
believer in gender equality and spent her life fighting for equal rights, which
is why she earned respect from several solicitors.

Hilary Clinton: The
former First Lady of the United States, Hilary Clinton is an inspiration to
women everywhere. She has a J.D. from Yale Law School and soon became a
solicitor. In addition to being a Former First Lady, Clinton became the 67th secretary
of state.
Shadi Sadr: Shadi
is an Iranian lawyer, solicitor and successful female rights activist. Shadi
majored in litigation law and holds a Master’s degree in international law.
Sadr excels in defending execution cases in Iran and has been featured in high
profile cases.
Sonia Sotomayor:
Sonia made headlines when she became one of the members of the United States
Supreme Court. She is the third female to make it to the Supreme Court and is
the first from Latin American heritage. Sonia studied at Yale where she became
the editor of the Yale Law Review. After graduating, she got a job as an
assistant district attorney at a very well-known law firm.
Margaret Thatcher:
Margaret is one of the most influential women of all time because of her
accomplishments. She was the first female Prime Minister of the UK. Before
pursuing a law degree, she studied chemistry and later went to complete her
J.D.
These women show
others that hard work, dedication and higher education can get you anywhere in
